A driver in Newton-le-Willows got jailed for dangerous driving after reversing into a police car. An officer was nearly hit.

A police dog handler tried to stop a Honda around 2:40 AM on Friday, December 6, 2024. This happened on Richmond Gardens in Newton-le-Willows. The Honda was seen speeding before the attempted stop.
The driver did not cooperate with the officer’s requests and refused to exit the car. The officer managed to put on one handcuff before the car then hit the officer’s police car. Importantly, the officer barely avoided getting hurt.
The officer tried multiple times to stop the driver, who then exited the car and took off running. Police Dog Quga was released to apprehend him. Quga detained the driver, letting the officer apply the second handcuff.
Bourne, age 34, lives on Devonshire Gardens in Newton-le-Willows. Police arrested him right there at the scene. On Tuesday, February 11, they gave him a ten-month jail sentence, and Bourne cannot drive for 42 months.
Inspector Phil McManus spoke about the incident, noting the officer only got minor injuries, including cuts, bruises, and soreness. Bourne’s driving could have led to more serious injuries. PD Quga helped quickly detain Bourne, ensuring a fast arrest.
