Max Bush, age 31, broke the law near Swindon. He admitted driving after using drugs and the court hearing occurred on December 20. He returned to court for his sentence on February 10.

The prosecutor stated that police stopped Bush in Devizes on Long Street around 1 AM on July 23. An officer saw Bush notice the police car and Bush then sped up, trying to get away.

The officer chased Bush’s BMW. Bush finally stopped the car. He jumped out and ran away from the police, who found him shortly after that incident. A test showed he used drugs, leading to his arrest and a blood test.

The prosecutor noted Bush’s past driving offenses, which included drunk driving and driving while banned in 2021. Representing himself in court, Bush said grief greatly impacted his life and admitted he coped poorly. He stated he now wants to fix his issues, saying, “I’ve been hurting myself and others.”

The Magistrate saw Bush as responsible and said he seemed ready to change, warning it was his last chance and that further crimes mean jail. She said his report’s sad details kept him from prison, telling him, “You can’t keep doing this. Someone could die – you or another person. You would live with that.”

Bush cannot drive for three years. He must do a one-year community order, involving 100 hours of unpaid labor. He also needs a six-month drug program and he must pay £189 total, covering court costs and a surcharge.
