John McLaren admitted to drunk driving after crashing on the Bridgewater Expressway in Runcorn. He was arrested and sentenced.

Chris Howard said the event happened last October. Police patrolled the Bridgewater Expressway. They were going to another case in Runcorn. Then, they saw a car crash.
The police noticed McLaren leaving. He seemed to be avoiding them. He went down a twenty-foot drop. Police officers then reached him and took him to the hospital for checks. He was arrested afterward.
His blood alcohol was very high; it was 207mg, while the legal limit is 80mg. He is 48 years old now and has one past conviction for two different crimes.
McLaren defended himself in court, saying that he fell, not jumped. He admitted to a long-term problem and that he struggled with alcohol and drugs for a decade.
McLaren said he is sorry and that he would never break the law sober. The court gave McLaren an 18-month order. He must do rehabilitation for ten days, use a 120-day alcohol monitor, and participate in a mental health program.
