Cycle hub approved! Dalton Park gets 14 bike spaces, cargo stands, repair station, and solar panels for sustainable transport.

The hub will be near KFC at Dalton Park. Patron Dalton Park Outlet Ltd. proposed this project and submitted the plans December 16, 2024. Durham County Council approved the plan February 10.
No one objected to the project. The hub needs to open by February 2028 and will follow several existing plans.
They will build a new structure for the hub using steel and timber. The steel will be powder-coated, and the timber is thermo pine.
The hub will have an open front and includes lighting and drainage. Three solar panels will be on the roof, boosting sustainability.
This new hub replaces older bike parking. That older area had 12 Sheffield stands, while the new design provides better security and protects bikes from the weather.
Highway officials had no issues with the plan, and it meets all relevant rules and policies. The project supports sustainable transport goals and backs sustainable design practices.
The hub fits well with Dalton Park’s look and will not hurt the area’s visual appeal. The site is not prone to flooding, and no trees or paths are affected.
