A Durham firefighter ran every day in January, covering 135 miles to raise money for If U Care Share.

This charity helps families after a suicide. Matthew Smith, Paul’s friend, started it. It began 20 years ago after his brother died. His brother, Daniel O’Hare, took his own life.
Paul knew Daniel too. They played on a local football team called Lumley FC, 20 years ago. Daniel sadly died in March 2005. Daniel was only nineteen.
There were no signs he felt despair. His family felt devastated by his death. They made the charity to help others. They wanted to prevent similar pain.
The charity says suicide impacts many people. Each death affects about 135 individuals. They started “Mission 135” to raise funds. People walk, run, or cycle 135 miles in January.
Paul’s last day included a special guest. Matthew Smith ran with Paul that day. They ran from Durham Fire Station to the charity in Chester-le-Street.
Paul always supported the charity. He ran the Great North Run many times. He did StrongArm events and the RED365 challenge. That meant running three miles daily for a year.
Government funding cuts hurt the charity. Matthew asked Paul to help raise money. The funds help families after suicide. Paul has raised £750. Running every day felt tough.
Matthew Smith thanked Paul for his help. Paul has supported If U Care Share for years. Matthew shared that Paul played football with Daniel. Paul has done amazing challenges.
