Appeal lodged after Newbury council denied plan for 427 rental flats to replace the Kennet Centre. Hearing in May.

The government has the final say but can overturn the council’s decision. A different plan exists named the Old Town scheme. This plan proposes 317 mews houses and removes the shopping centre.
That Old Town plan is with the council currently and they are deciding when to discuss it. Meanwhile, the Planning Inspectorate is planning the appeal. They’ll have a conference call first, covering procedures and evidence.
Any feedback sent gets shared, meaning the appellant and council will both see it. The inspector will consider all feedback and the deadline to comment is March 25. A decision should take about a week.
Everyone is watching the council. Can they schedule the Old Town plan and decide before the government does? The council must follow its own rules.
