Newham had the highest crime numbers in January 2025. Tower Hamlets, Redbridge and Waltham Forest followed closely.

Newham’s crime rate was third highest in London. Theft was a big problem, with 1,173 reports. Violence was next, with 755 reports, followed by vehicle offenses at 318 and drug offenses at 250.
Tower Hamlets had the next highest crime count, reporting 2,701 crimes. Their top crime was theft with 777 reports, closely followed by violence with 757 reports. Burglaries and vehicle crimes saw 248 and 207 reports, respectively. Crime in Tower Hamlets fell 4.5 percent.
Redbridge had the third-highest crime, reporting 1,932 offenses. Violence was the biggest issue there with 645 cases, four more than last year. Theft followed with 444 reports, and vehicle offenses had 264 registered reports.
Theft in Redbridge fell by 3.5 percent, and vehicle offenses dropped by 8 percent. Waltham Forest had 1,863 reported crimes. Theft was their leading problem, with 549 cases, though overall reports dropped by four.
Waltham Forest saw some crime increases. Arson and damage rose 31.8 percent, drug offenses increased by 20.9 percent, and sexual offenses went up 13 percent. Barking and Dagenham had the second-lowest crime, reporting 1,544 offenses.
Barking and Dagenham’s crime fell by 8 percent. Violence was reported 539 times, and theft had 309 reports in total. Both violence and theft were down slightly.
Havering was the safest east London borough, reporting 1,476 crimes in January, a 15.3 percent decrease! Violence and theft were the most common, with 485 and 344 reports, respectively. Arson and criminal damage went way down; reports decreased by 49.4 percent!
Burglaries fell by 31.2 percent, and vehicle offenses dropped 25.4 percent. Weapon possession went down 68.4 percent, while sexual offenses went up 31.5 percent. Public order offenses rose 20.5 percent.
