Edinburgh’s new annual property tax rates are set. Band A is now £1021.45. Band B is £1191.68. Band C costs £1361.93. Band D is £1532.14. Band E will be £2011.56. Band F is £2486.63.
Band G costs £2991.88. Band H residents will pay £3742.91. Councillor Mandy Watt presented the budget. She says it helps people and the environment. The council is tackling poverty and climate change.
Alex Staniforth spoke about the Green budget ideas. It had plans for social housing investments. It aimed at increased spending on climate change and poverty. It also suggested actions to make the city safer.
Staniforth says Labour sided with Lib Dems and Conservatives. He thinks they passed a weak budget. It lacked new ideas and was a missed opportunity. People paying more tax deserve positive changes.
Green proposals were rejected. These included improving access and building toilets. Securing Gorgie Farm’s future was also refused. Staniforth believes Labour prioritized themselves. He accuses them of ignoring people’s well-being.
