Shelter Scotland shared some worrying numbers. Edinburgh had over 3600 kids in temporary housing in 2024. Wales reported 2823 children in similar housing last November.

The situation in Scotland seems to be getting worse. In that country, March 2024 saw record numbers living in temporary spots. Over ten thousand children there lacked permanent homes at that time. From April to September of last year things worsened. Over 17,000 households faced being homeless. This was a 4% rise from 2023.

Shelter Scotland’s director spoke about the crisis. She mentioned 3600 homeless Edinburgh children. She noted the 2823 Welsh children lacking permanent homes.

Wales shows a slightly improved picture. Scotland’s issues keep worsening, she says. She feels the Scottish government loves UK comparisons. However, Edinburgh has far more homeless kids than Wales.

Wales also has its own housing problems currently. She called this imbalance shocking. She blamed the Scottish government and local groups. They fail to prioritize housing and social homes, she claimed. She urges the government to target resources better. This hopefully meets plans to cut child poverty. The Scottish Government was asked for a response to this.
