Parking fees in Edinburgh are increasing, potentially by up to 13%, affecting various city zones and impacting drivers.

The Labour administration proposed a new budget. They want to fund new schools, and spending on temporary housing is also planned. Council tax might rise by 8%, making band ‘D’ £1,563.51 for 2025/26.
Certain parking spots will get pricier. George St, St Andrew Square, and others will cost £9. That’s a 9.76% jump! Stafford St and Melville St could reach £8 an hour; expect over an 11% increase there.
The West End is also affected. You’ll pay £6.80 an hour in some spots, a rise of over 13%! Parking near Northumberland St might hit £6; it’s an 11% increase there.
Bruntsfield could see prices around £4.50, about a 12% jump in cost. South Queensferry parking goes up 15% to £1.50. The Extended Controlled Zone will be £4.20, up 10%.
Bus and coach parking is also changing: expect to pay £9.80 per hour. This is up over 11%. The city hopes to use the extra money, as repairing pavements will cost £12.5 million.
They also want safer routes to schools. £5 million is planned for better safety, improving unsafe areas, which came from a women’s safety survey result.
Labour needs to negotiate with other parties. Getting the budget approved needs votes; other parties have different tax ideas. Conservatives want 7%, and Greens want 10%.
The SNP and Lib Dems propose an 8% rise. This matches officer budget suggestions. The full council votes on the budget soon; the meeting is on Thursday, February 20.
