Tram and bus fares in Edinburgh will increase to combat rising operating costs and fund future improvements.

New prices start on Sunday, April 6. An adult single fare changes to £2.20. It was previously £2. The adult return fare will be £4.20. The old price was £3.80. Day tickets will cost £5.50. They used to be £5.
Lea Harrison manages Edinburgh Trams these days. She knows no one likes fare hikes. Yet, the higher fares are deemed necessary because demand is growing for the tram service. The rise helps provide friendly travel.
The fare changes help to maintain the network and also improve the service. Customers can buy ticket bundles or use the ET app to get discounts. Pre-book other tickets online instead.
Stephen Jenkinson is a Labour Councillor. He says the price rise is very important now, because investing in the tram network matters most. It helps Edinburgh stay connected well. Trams made over 12 million journeys last year.
The councilor knows price increases are hard now and that the current economy makes it harder. Still, they must protect the trams because a new tram line is planned too. Keeping Edinburgh moving is their main goal.
