Tram tickets in Edinburgh will cost more starting April 6, due to increased operational costs.

The company says costs for operation rose a lot in the last two years. These costs force the fare increase.
Lea Harrison, the Managing Director at Edinburgh Trams, said they tried to keep the rise small. The rise lets them offer good travel that will still be affordable and green.
She knows no one likes fare hikes, but demands on the trams are way up. Trams run more often now, every day, and the changes will help improve the trams, which benefits the customer.
Councillor Stephen Jenkinson is a convener and said trams give a vital service. Over 12 million journeys happened last year, and trams to Newhaven are beneficial, making the north part better.
He knows fares are tough right now because the economy is hard for many people. They must still protect and invest in trams, and they also want a new tram line in the future to keep Edinburgh moving.
