Stow Maries aerodrome increases events after financial struggles to improve visitor numbers.

Last summer was tough on the museum due to road closures. Unexpectedly, visitors couldn’t get there, which hurt them financially during their peak season. The museum’s income fell sharply, less than 50 percent of normal, and they lost about £60,000. They really needed some help quickly.
The museum’s future looked grim last September when the trustees decided to keep going. They told people about the museum’s struggles. People supported the museum a lot. They raised over £12,250, which helped with costs, and a generous donor also gave a lot of money.
These donations saved it for another year, giving it a chance to stay alive. Ian Flint, who runs the aerodrome charity, said they were very happy with the help. They got donations and support for events.
Ian also emphasized that visiting is vital. Folks can visit or donate, and the museum needs more visitors in 2025. This is their chance at survival. They are adding two new exhibits and have many events planned.
The cafe is in the 1917 Airmen’s Mess, and you can visit it without paying admission. Ian said saving the museum is the top goal and that everyone is welcome to visit, even just for coffee. Even buying cake helps them survive.
The museum opens Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 10 AM to 4 PM, on Hackman’s Lane, Purleigh, CM3 6RN. Check out their website, stowmaries.org.uk, to plan your visit. You can find details on their events calendar, too.
