Ellerslie House will expand with a wrap-around extension to better accommodate specialist care needs. The family will benefit.

The old house is hard to use with a wheelchair; steps, small hallways, and doors cause problems now. They want to add a ground floor extension to provide specialized areas for the client.
The new area includes a bedroom and bathroom. A lounge, kitchen, and sensory space are planned, as well as carer’s accommodations. Everything considers wheelchair use.
An extra entrance and lobby will have a flat entry. All rooms will have enough turning space in the new layout, and the bedroom and lounge open directly to the garden, offering level access to the lawn and stone.
The design makes hoist usage easy throughout the extension, which helps with daily care. The plan also changes the house’s current layout, allowing wheelchair access to the main areas and ensuring the family can share.
The extension relates well to the main house and neighbors. The top of the roof will be shorter, matching other additions to the property from before.
The council said yes to the project plans. Work must start in three years, and you can see the full plans on the council’s planning website.
