UK police reveal drivers exceeding 90mph in 30mph zones. One driver clocked doing 122mph. Speeding linked to road deaths.

The craziest speed was 122 mph. This happened in a 30 mph zone in South Yorkshire. Someone drove 88 mph in a 20 mph zone. That was up in North Wales. A driver sped 167 mph on the M1. The speed limit there? Just 70 mph.
These numbers came from police data. It covered early 2023 to late August 2024. Forty police forces gave information. 311 people died in crashes in 2023.
Speeding was a factor in these accidents. That death toll was the highest in ten years. Speeding contributed to 21% of all road deaths. A survey showed many think speeding is okay. The RAC wants the government to act. They want fewer deaths from speeding.
Rod Dennis from the RAC spoke out. He called the speeds incredibly dangerous. He said police thankfully caught these reckless drivers. He stated there’s no room for such excessive speeds.
