шоcking speeds recorded. West Midlands drivers caught going over 100mph in 30mph areas, raising serious safety concerns.

West Midlands Police saw similar speeding. One driver hit 100 mph in a 30 mph area. Another did 65 mph in a 20 mph zone. Those speeds are also incredibly dangerous.
RAC used Freedom of Information to get the data. They looked at speeds from January 2023 to August 2024. Almost half of UK police forces saw drivers over 90 mph in 30 mph zones.
West Midlands Police recorded one person driving 142 mph. This happened on the M6, a 60 mph section. West Mercia Police saw someone else speeding at 132 mph on the M5. The M5 section had a 50 mph limit.
Road Safety Commissioner Mat MacDonald called the data “shocking”. He said the data shows a bigger speeding problem. Speeding worries parents walking kids to school.
It also raises insurance costs for everyone. MacDonald mentioned a recent RAC study on driver opinions. The study showed that many people somewhat feel they can speed. However, that same research also shows people want measures against speeding.
MacDonald said Mayor Richard Parker wants to improve road safety. MacDonald and Beccy Marston will work together. They’ll seek funding and support. They aim to make streets safe for everyone.
