London Fire Brigade responds to a record number of false alarms, with faulty equipment being the main cause.

London’s Fire Brigade went to 63,057 false alarms. This was up from 59,452 the prior year and it’s the highest number since 2010! Faulty equipment caused 52,727 of those alarms.
Around 9,421 alarms were “good intent” calls, meaning people thought there was a real fire! Sadly, 909 alarms were malicious hoaxes, someone deliberately set them off.
Across the country, there were 254,041 false alarms. This is the most since 2011. Faulty alarms caused most of them–183,115 to be exact. “Good intent” and “malicious” alarms actually decreased.
The Fire Brigades Union wants better alarm care and they want fires stopped from spreading fast. Fire crews are trained to handle fires early on, to protect lives and property. Firefighters check if there is a fire.
Businesses should keep alarms working well. Fire services need resources for the calls. This means they can tackle fires quickly. London’s Fire Brigade had 134,229 calls, including fires and other emergencies. Fire incidents made up sixteen thousand of those calls.
