Hey, guess what’s happening in Farnborough? They’re finally building a new leisure center! The old one got torn down back in 2021.

The new center will have cool stuff. Think a 25-meter pool and a smaller pool to learn in. Also, they are including a gym with lots of equipment. It gets even better!

Fitness studios are planned, three in fact. They will also have a wellness hub plus a cafe. A toddler play area will be there, too.

The council had to rethink earlier plans in 2024 because those plans became too expensive to actually do. Money was already set aside for the first plan. The government had provided a Levelling Up grant, £20 million.

Rushmoor Council wasn’t sure it could use this for the new plan. Good news came this month! The government said the money is okay to use. They approved it for the new leisure center project.

The council leader, Gareth Williams, seems really happy. He said they are giving residents what they deserve because the earlier plans were not viable. Williams thanked Alex Baker for government help.

They will move forward with detailed designs now, hoping construction will begin soon. On February 11, the council approved this new plan. They are preparing a business case for the government to look at.

If everything goes well, building starts spring of 2026. They plan to open it in autumn 2027. The new center goes on the Queensmead car park site. The old site goes to developers for new houses.
