David Ross, the council leader, called it a tough budget. He said raising council tax impacts families but argued that cutting services hurts vulnerable people more. He said they must balance savings and essential services.
Craig Walker, the SNP leader, wanted a lower increase. He said they had to protect Fife residents and thought 6.4% was more balanced and responsible. It would maintain services without excessive costs. Labour expects tax rates will rise 5% in 2026 and 2027.
