Firefighters rescue Woodey from a drainpipe in Addington Hills. The team worked quickly to free the dog safely.

The owners were walking their two eight-year-old dogs, Woodey and Quincey. They lost sight of them in a park before the dogs fell into the wooded hillside pipe.
Quincey got free and alerted his owners that Woodey was stuck with incessant barking. Woodey’s owner, Lesley, called the fire brigade, worried about Woodey.
The pipe’s echo made it sound like Woodey had breathing problems. Station officer Ray Foster arrived and used a special camera to locate the dog deep inside the pipe.
To keep Woodey safe and avoid scaring him, the firefighters carefully broke the pipe. Lesley’s son arrived with a sausage to tempt Woodey.
The hammer sounds and sausage smell proved effective, Woodey ran up the pipe to freedom where firefighters grabbed him, completing the rescue.
Lesley was thankful and relieved, praising the firefighters’ work. The fire brigade loves animals and will help distressed ones.
They suggest calling the RSPCA first, but firefighters will assist with special equipment as needed. Crews from Woodside and Croydon responded to the 3 pm call, and the rescue took 90 minutes.
