Fire crews responded to a large fire on Molland Common, fueled by strong winds, stretching 200 meters.

The strong winds fueled the fire. Two fronts of fire stretched about 200 meters. Crews came from South Molton, Bampton, and Barnstaple, arriving around midday with a water bowser.
Firefighters assessed the fire’s size and requested two more fire engines. They used hoses, beaters, and special backpacks to put out the flames. The backpacks are specifically designed for bush firefighting. They don’t know what started the fire yet.
Fire services shared advice on preventing wildfires. Always take your litter home with you and dispose of cigarettes with care. Glass in sunlight can cause fires, so don’t leave it lying around.
Do not have campfires in the countryside; only use designated safe areas. Avoid bonfires when the weather gets very dry, and follow bonfire safety advice if necessary.
Talk to kids about fire dangers. Keep matches away from children and teens. Visit the fire service website to find out more about wildfire safety there.
