Two fishermen were fishing near a Scottish island. They got a report about a trapped animal on Sunday.

These fishermen had training. The Scottish Entanglement Alliance (SEA) trained them. They could help the whale right away.

They arrived to check the whale and found rope around its tail. The whale was stuck because of it.

The fishermen worked with SEA. They hauled the creel gear to free it and removed all the rope. The whale was finally free. Then, the fishermen reset the creel traps.

Another whale needed help last month. It was stuck in rope near Skye. Ellie MacLennan works at Glasgow University. She said the rescue was a “great example,” and that fishermen help stop entanglements.

The whale got caught between creels. The rope floats and made loops. These loops trapped the whale, she told STV News.

SEA is testing sinking rope. This rope stays on the seabed, and they are working with Scottish fishermen. This rope could prevent future entanglements. This shows a simple fix for this issue. Fishermen can lead this effort.
