Five dogs were found abandoned near Stanton Fitzwarren, sparking a local rescue effort and police investigation.

Andrew and Toni Kirsopp found them. The dogs looked to be in bad shape. Their fur was matted, plus they smelled awful. Andrew’s partner got a call about the dogs.
The yard owner said dogs were wandering around. Andrew called the RSPCA, but it was closed. So, Toni went down to try and get them food. Locals helped, discovering there were four dogs.
The dogs smelled very bad, Andrew noted. People brought the dogs to a kennel. They checked them for microchips there. A fifth dog, another Retriever, was found nearby. This happened close to the B4019 turn-off. It was separate from the other dogs’ location.
Debbie Sanderford found this fifth dog. She took him to Eastcott Vets in Dorcan. The vet found a microchip, but it lacked info. People think the dogs were dumped.
Residents suspect the fifth dog relates to the others. A yard owner saw a van with barking dogs. He says it drove off from a fly-tipping spot.
This hasn’t been verified yet, police say. Dog wardens are handling this case now. The dogs are currently safe in kennels. Two locals offered to foster them temporarily.
They will wait for news about the dogs. Andrew said they want to find the owners.
