An 81-year-old man from Flintshire has been jailed for eight years for historic child sex offences committed in the 1980s.

George Welsh, an 81-year-old from near Holywell, was sentenced on February 27th in Liverpool Crown Court, where he claimed he did not commit the crimes.
After a one-week trial, he was found guilty of all 14 offences, including indecent assault on a boy under 16 and gross indecency on a younger boy under 14 years old.
Welsh hurt one boy in the 1980s while living in Birkenhead, according to Merseyside Police. Detective Inspector Sarah Wilkinson spoke about the case, stating that they proved Welsh’s behavior.
She noted that Welsh denied doing the crimes, but evidence showed he was guilty, causing the victim and his family to suffer more during the trial.
The police protect children from sexual abuse and go after people who want to harm them, with officers who investigate these crimes providing full support to victims and their families.
If you experienced sexual abuse, report it; if you know a child being abused, report it too, as police take these reports seriously, treating you with care and compassion.
