Havering Council announces the passing of former Mayor John Mylod, who served multiple terms and recently received freedom of the borough.

He came from Dublin, Ireland. His family moved to Britain when he was very young, when he was just six months old. Havering Council shared some details about his life. He grew up in Ilford and lived in Dagenham, Cranham, and Upminster too.
John did national service for two years back in the 1950s. He then worked at Ford Motor Company and for several local councils.
He helped start two organizations: one for municipal safety officers and the other for health and safety practitioners. He was the general secretary there and helped with the police cadets as well. John retired early from his work.
In May 1994, he joined Havering Council, representing Saint Andrews ward. He belonged to the Hornchurch Residents’ Association then, and voters re-elected him six times. He left the HRA in 2018 and then joined the Conservatives.
During Covid, he made history as the first mayor chosen by a virtual vote. In December, Havering gave him a special honor, awarding him freedom of the borough.
Ray Morgon, who leads both HRA and the council, shared his sadness. He said John was known by many and served Saint Andrews residents well. He sent condolences to John’s family and friends, adding that they will honor him at the March 26th council meeting.
