Flo Shaughnessy, former Maldon mayor and councillor, has died. She served Maldon with passion and dedication.

Andrew Lay is the current Maldon mayor. He said Flo worked hard for her residents. Mayor Lay stated Flo served ten years on the council and showed passion while serving the community. Terry, her husband, supported her as mayor during 2019 and 2020.
Flo cared about Maldon’s history and chaired the heritage working group with the goal of preserving the town’s history. She loved St Giles Ruins and Leech Memorial Garden, even leading tours there.
Lay said Flo wanted Maldon to be beautiful. As chair of Maldon in Bloom, she helped improve green spaces in the town. Flo wanted Maldon to be a place people enjoyed. People will remember her dedication to the town.
She was a trustee for the Plume Educational Trust and a member of the Maldon Tourism Group. Flo helped new councillors and staff often, sharing her insight calmly.
Lay said her kindness will leave a lasting impact. He extended condolences to Flo’s family. Her colleagues and the community will miss her; he enjoyed seeing her around town.
