Ian Latimer, former Northern Constabulary chief, passed away. Honored as champion of Highlands for dedicated service.

Latimer once led Northern Constabulary, serving as chief from 2001 to 2011. He also worked for Merseyside Police and for Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. He received the Queen’s Police Medal in 2006.
He died on February 12, 2025, in Teandalloch. His wife’s name was Margaret, and he had three sons: Matthew, Jonathan, and Daniel. Niamh was his daughter-in-law.
Current Chief Constable Jo Farrell spoke about Latimer, noting that colleagues saw him as reliable and a passionate leader. He truly cared about the Highlands.
Farrell acknowledged that he was liked and respected, and admired within policing. He strongly impacted the Highland community and supported colleagues and partner groups.
Police Scotland sends thoughts to his family and friends. His former colleagues are grieving with them. His funeral is February 28 at 2 p.m. at William T Fraser and Son in Inverness.
