Plans submitted to convert the old Brooks Around the Corner into nine apartments after restaurant closure.

The building sits at Church Street and Lower Brook Street’s corner and used to be a pub called the Sun Inn. It closed as a pub way back in 1996. Then, it was Brooks Around the Corner, but closed in 2020. They sold it at auction in May 2022, and the building has been empty since then. No one showed enough interest to keep it going.
A group called Ke-design made the plans, representing Kynaston Contract Services Ltd. They plan to convert 69 Church Street, with the flats spreading across three floors. Ke-design said the owner likes the building’s look and its spot at the crossroads. The building itself is still in pretty good shape.
The applicant wants to make it homes and fill the service yard with housing, as the town needs more places to live. They plan to tear down two extensions, which will make room for new construction. A new entrance and stairwell are planned, and people will use them to reach upper floors. A new part will use the old service yard’s space.
The new place will have different sized flats. There will be seven one-bedroom flats and two apartments will have two bedrooms. These smaller flats will be good for young people and couples. The firm also thinks these work for people who want a smaller place.
Ke-design noted a problem in their plans, though. The location makes parking impossible, as the site simply doesn’t have room for cars.
