Ex-PC Mark Cranfield jailed for misusing his position and harassing a vulnerable revenge porn victim after downloading a video.

The woman was very vulnerable, and the messages included talk about sex. The court heard all of this over two weeks. A judge sentenced him in Birmingham.
Judge Maylin called it a “grave betrayal.” She said he broke the woman’s trust in the police. Cranfield sent her a friend request online. This happened right after she left the police station. He had downloaded a video there for evidence.
Before this case, he had a good career. The bad behavior started in 2018. The judge said Cranfield cared more about the photos and seemed more interested in the video. It showed something intimate. He seemed less interested in supporting her and investigating her claims.
He wanted a relationship with her, either in person or online. The judge felt punishment was important here to send a message to others. Cranfield said he felt sorry; however, she felt she must jail him. She could not suspend the sentence.
In December, Cranfield was found guilty of misusing his public office.
