Stephenson’s Gallery will open a spot in York at 6 Clifford Street, former home of Wards the Florist.

Mark and Louise Stephenson run the gallery. It started in Cambridge in 2007. It was then called EE Fine Art. They moved to York in 2024, and they’ll use the basement and ground floor.
Mark said they’re excited about York and want a cool spot for modern art. They’ll show artists from Northern England. They will also showcase Eastern European artists.
They have planned many exhibitions. You will find themed groups of art and spotlights on specific artists. Mark and Louise moved back four months ago.
They’re from the North-East, but lived in York before. Angela Bare, a shop, moved from Clifford Street to their other store in Bridlington. Stephenson’s Gallery wants new signs.
They plan to replace the old florist’s sign with new brass letters on rails above the door. The old sign will be repaired. Holes will be filled in the stone, which has nice carvings.
The application says it’s time to change the signs because Wards left eight years ago. Stephenson’s Gallery needs to advertise and wants to flourish in the building.
