Hannah Barrow will restore a neglected 100-year-old walled garden at Bryn Seiont Newydd care home near Caernarfon.

Hannah said Mario’s call surprised her, and she was excited about the garden. She sees its neglect over many years as a positive thing, calling it a blank canvas. This allows her to create something entirely new.
The 37-year-old has experience with significant projects. Her mother, Jan Lomas, was a head gardener at Mostyn Hall and Grosvenor Estate. Recognizing Hannah’s gardening talent, Jan encouraged her to study horticulture.
Hannah worked at Grosvenor Estate before starting her own business. She recently created a herb garden at St James’s Church in Holywell. Now, Hannah is ready for the challenge in Caernarfon.
She aims to create a beautiful space for residents to fully enjoy. Her plans include raised beds, a wildflower area, and vegetable, herb, and flower beds. Also, a water feature and seating are included in the design.
Hannah’s passion sets her apart is her love of getting her hands dirty. She will include sunny spots and shade. Raised beds will help residents. She loves creating spaces for people. Her passion is nature.
Mario Kreft, the owner of Pendine Park, recognized Hannah’s strong passion. Pendine Park prides itself on having great gardeners who create beautiful gardens. These gardens contribute to people’s well-being, which is important to Pendine Park.
Gardens are beneficial for those who are unwell and seeing nature is important. Even looking through a window can help improve wellbeing. Mario wants to improve things and believes Hannah can support his team, especially as it’s Pendine’s 40th year. Wellbeing involves outside spaces, so it is important to smell the roses.
Hannah’s father is John Lomas, the Church in Wales bishop for Swansea and Brecon. Hannah moved frequently during her childhood, living in various vicarages. She gardened with her mom during this time, sparking her love for plants.
The houses they lived in had big gardens. She helped her mom often. She always wanted to work outside, as school wasn’t for her. After sensing her talent, her mom sent her to Northop.
Hannah is married to Thomas and they have two children: Esme, 18, and James, 13. James enjoys helping her garden, and she recognizes herself in him.
