Clara, 16, tackles a daring abseil down Anglesey Column, honoring her friend Maya and raising funds for Hope House Tŷ Gobaith.

Now Clara is doing a fundraiser. She will abseil down the Anglesey Column in memory of her friend. She wants to support the hospice.
Clara is from Ryton in Shrewsbury. She will abseil on May 17th. Her brother Charles will join her, and her friend Abbi Williams is also participating.
The hospice organizes the Anglesey Abseil. Go Vertical helps with the challenge. People climb 115 steps to the top, then descend 89 feet by rope.
Clara’s mom, Lisa-Jayne Powis, spoke about Clara. Losing Maya was hard on Clara, but now Clara is old enough for challenges and isn’t afraid of anything.
Clara is now 16 years old. She has already raised over £40,000. The money goes to the hospices in Oswestry and Conwy.
The events that raised money included car runs and raffles. They held party nights and collections at festivals and a theatre. Charles did a skydive before.
The Anglesey Column opened in 1817. It is near LlanfairPG. The column honors the Earl of Uxbridge, who lost a leg at Waterloo and later became the Marquees of Anglesey.
Lisa-Jayne said they are proud parents. Clara turned grief into action. Clara does positive things for the hospice that cared for her friend Maya.
Clara plans three more events in 2025. These events will benefit the hospice. She plans an Easter quiz, a summer fete, and a classic convoy.
