Gisborough Hall wants to build a new spa. Gisborough Hotels Limited submitted the application to Redcar and Cleveland Council. The plan includes a spa, huts, pool, and terrace, and it also changes the inside and outside of the hall.

The spa will be in the hotel’s north wing, with the ground floor transforming into the new spa area. A reception, shop, and kitchen are part of the plan to add food and drink service, and a new entrance will provide access.

The huts will offer saunas and a snug room, including a herbal sauna, a salt steam room and a Finnish sauna. The new spa is predicted to create twenty-six jobs.

The new spa aims to use the buildings well and seeks to create an outdoor wellness space immersed in nature. The ultimate goal is a top leisure resort that could boost tourism and create jobs, especially as the hotel, while hosting events, isn’t always fully booked. The spa could attract both hotel guests and locals, bringing in more revenue and the spa garden should improve the guest experience, while potentially helping the environment.

However, twenty-one trees need to be cut down, although there are also plans to plant seventeen new trees, aiming to balance the impact. A prior plan was approved in 2018, but this new one is smaller and less visible.

The owners hope to grow the business while protecting Gisborough Hall, which is important to the town. They aim to improve it as a tourism spot, believing the proposals are appropriate and respectful.

The construction is not expected to harm the area, and the new development is considered a good investment that will help secure the hall’s future; Gisborough Hall was built in 1857 set in parkland.

As the largest hotel in the area, said to be four-star, Gisborough Hall has gained rooms over time. The opportunity for public comment on the plan has passed, with the consultation ending on February 28.

Natural England doesn’t foresee negative impacts, and the park suggested using special lighting to protect the night sky. Guisborough Town Council also agrees with the project. The council’s tree expert spoke about the trees, noting that most removal trees have limited value; replacement with similar species would help, leading him to approve the plans.
