Hey, guess what happened in Godstone! A huge sinkhole opened up on February 18th. It’s on Godstone High Street, near the M25. It’s also pretty close to the Croydon border.

The sinkhole is massive, about 19 meters long and 3 meters wide. Thirty homes are within a 100-meter safety zone, and some folks had to leave their houses because of it.

A water pipe burst, so some people have no water while SES Water is working to fix the problem. Surrey County Council calls it a “Major Incident,” and local agencies are handling things.

Carl Bussey leads the coordination group and works for Surrey County Council. He says they are working with many groups, including emergency services and utility companies, and collaborating with the highways team.

Tandridge District Council is helping too. Their goal is to keep everyone safe and protect the property nearby.

They are still checking things out, as they want to make the area safe again and fix the utilities quickly. People should stay away from the area while this important work is happening right now.

They will share updates as things change, and Tandridge District Council is helping residents by offering advice about where to stay. Road detours are in place because it is closed.

The Local Resilience Forum will keep meeting to ensure everything possible gets done, resolving everything quickly and safely. The A25 Godstone High Street is currently closed.

SES asked drivers to stay away from the road and will give bottled water to priority customers too. These are customers on their special service register who will get water delivered.
