Melrose Golf Club in Scotland needs a new plan and may face a £23,498 bill after discovering protected great crested newts.

Because of the newts, the golf club needs a new plan. This plan must protect the newts where they live. The plan must also allow golf to continue. The club has to follow legal rules for the protected species, so the club must do ecology surveys now.
They also need habitat management plans. Habitat development work is necessary too. New machinery will help the staff. This will save time to care for both.
The club asked for a grant of money. It equals £23,498 to help out. A council committee may give the grant. This money will fund surveys and habitat plans. It will also buy the needed equipment.
The grant will aid the club. The newts will get necessary habitat, and the staff can then maintain the golf course well. Someone moved newts there without permission.
Melrose Golf Club is run by volunteers. It serves the town with golf. The club has around 190 members.
The clubhouse is a community space. Fundraisers and meetings happen there. Groups like Dingleton use the clubhouse often. Melrose Football Club meet there too.
