Saroj Ladva, 71, runs a badminton group in Grantham. It combats loneliness and helps older people connect and learn a new skill.

Saroj enjoys badminton herself and wanted more older people to play. She noticed older people can feel alone and also felt lonely staying home. The club helps people escape loneliness, and learn a new skill too.
The group meets Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and beginners are welcome to join. It doesn’t matter if it is your first time playing. Saroj plays with members to help them relax and hopes to boost their confidence.
Sometimes, people sit out during games to chat with others there. Socializing is a big part of the club, and Saroj thinks we should support older people more. Older people need to feel valued and confident, Learning badminton provides a new skill.
Sheila, Alice, and Lillian, aged 92, 90, and 90 respectively, are group members. Saroj finds running the group rewarding and likes making people happy through badminton. Helping a 90-year-old play is great.
