Callum Sleight, 31, jailed for a year after breaching suspended sentence for attempted robbery at Grantham store.

The court had shown Sleight leniency before, but he violated the rules of that sentence three times. The probation service requested the court to act and re-sentence Sleight.
The robbery attempt occurred on September 29, 2023, around 8 PM. Sleight entered the store and told the shopkeeper he had a gun, but the shopkeeper didn’t believe him, so Sleight left without taking anything.
After the incident, police were called and found Sleight nearby. He admitted to being the suspect and said he needed money for drugs; at the time, Sleight had no prior convictions.
The court initially gave him an 18-month suspended sentence, requiring him to complete drug treatment and rehab activities. His lawyer asked for leniency again in court, claiming Sleight followed the rules initially, but issues arose only recently, pointing to Sleight’s arrest at the probation office.
Ultimately, the Judge decided on jail, stating he couldn’t keep the sentence suspended because he lost confidence in Sleight. He reduced the jail time from 18 months to 12 months to acknowledge his limited compliance.
