New £8.8 million waste depot in Grantham is on track, aiming for completion by October 7 and opening November 25.

This £8.8 million project is on Turnpike Close. It is where Fenland Foods used to be. The depot will improve council services and should make 250 jobs. These jobs include bin collection and street cleaning. They also include housing work plus a vehicle workshop.
Planning was approved in January 2024, and Lindum won the contract in April. Work began in late October. Tom Damarell discussed progress on February 18 at a council Finance and Economic meeting.
They fixed fencing and made a substation base. Workers also built the new access road. Now, they are digging for drainage and foundations.
Councillor Johnson asked about the project’s status. Mr. Damarell confirmed it remained on budget. He said Lindum strives to hand it over on schedule, and they plan for the depot to open November 25.
Councillor Turner inquired about potential delays also. Mr. Damarell said ground work finished, therefore surprises are unlikely. Councillor Cleaver said, for now, all is well.
Councillor Green asked about lorry drivers staying overnight. Mr. Damarell said it’s not currently a problem, adding the area will be fenced off later.
The new depot must open by March 2026. A food waste scheme starts in April, however the Alexandra Road depot lacks facilities for this scheme. It will stay open until the new site’s ready.
