GWR ran a special “Apprentice Train” from London to Exeter to mark National Apprenticeship Week and a 10-year partnership.

This event celebrated National Apprenticeship Week. It also marked a big anniversary: GWR has partnered with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for ten years. Isn’t that neat?
Rachel Geliamassi, a director at GWR, spoke about it. She said it showed the many jobs available in the rail industry and highlighted their amazing workers.
Sophie Carter, a 21-year-old apprentice and Gold DofE Award holder, organized the train. She hopes to show career options in rail.
Over eighty GWR apprentices earned Gold DofE Awards through the DofE Business program since 2015. This shows real dedication.
Alex McDowell, who directs fundraising for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, also talked about the partnership. He highlighted the ten-year impact and noted that it helped many apprentices get their Gold Award.
