42 affordable bungalows approved for Trimdon Village, addressing housing needs despite local concerns about location and traffic.

The developers call it an “affordable” project. These are single-story, two-bedroom homes, and they’re building them off Salters Lane.
Chris Varty, a county councillor for Trimdon and Thornley, asked councillors to approve it. She said they need new housing badly. However, she wants Salters Lane to be safer. It’s a busy road with a 60mph speed limit, and she worries about the traffic there.
Some locals are concerned about the view. They think the design isn’t right for the village since it sits on top of a hill. Eddy Adam thinks they should build them elsewhere. While he likes the idea of more bungalows, the location bothers him, though. Usually, they are nearer to shops.
The council’s planning folks said to approve the plans. The developers cooperated with the planning officers well, making changes to the design. It will provide bungalows that are affordable. Durham County Council approved the application.
