Veterans walk 130 miles from Clare to Lowestoft in Suffolk to raise funds for the Colonel’s Fund, supporting soldiers and families.

A team of Grenadier Guards will walk 130 miles across Suffolk, from Clare to Lowestoft. The walk will take them one week in August.
The veterans want to raise £10,000 for the Colonel’s Fund. This fund helps current and former soldiers, and supports their families.
The challenge starts August 9, and the group already has over £2,500 in donations. People can still donate online.
Matt Michette organizes the walk after getting the idea from a veterans club. It is a monthly meeting in East Anglia. Many people attend it.
Kevin suggested visiting Grenadier memorials, and they changed the route to include them. Gary Reinecke helps with logistics, as do Carl Clarke and Tony Golding.
The veterans will lay wreaths at the graves of fallen Grenadiers. One was Alfred Ablett, a Victoria Cross recipient. They will remember Glen Ling, who died in 1978.
They will also honor 37 others whose names are on county memorials. The team will lay poppy crosses and deliver spoken tributes.
The Colonel’s Fund helps wounded veterans, extending back to World War Two. Some veterans have lasting physical or mental scars, and their families also receive support.
Michette said the support is very important, clarifying that helping veterans helps them too. They are training and excited for the walk. Donations and support inspire them.
