Jane Mudd works as Gwent’s police and crime commissioner. She is a member of the Labour party. Things are improving with antisocial behavior in Blackwood, and it’s good news that the actions seem effective early on.

Gwent Police increased patrols around the town since January. They issued dispersal orders and made some arrests too. Council wardens are watching the area regularly as well. Reports about antisocial behavior are now lower. Hopefully, this decrease continues for the town.

Jane plans to discuss this at the Blackwood Council meeting next week. Antisocial behavior isn’t a brand new problem, but temporary fixes aren’t a real solution here. We need to fund initiatives to support young people.

Early support can stop behaviors from escalating to serious crime. Public services face tough financial times currently, but Jane commits to addressing this issue in Gwent. Her new plan will focus on tackling this behavior, and she will invest in appropriate services to help.

Everyone has a role to play in this situation. She asks parents to talk with their children about these things and discuss the harm that antisocial behavior brings to communities, as it can also damage their own futures.

Honest talks can build understanding between groups and different generations. Jane likes the work at The Talking Shop because of this. It’s near Blackwood bus station, on Market Place, where people can chat, drink tea, and do creative things.

Trained people help conversations, and all are welcome. Jane helped fund a pilot project for a mobile version, which addresses community issues across Gwent. She looks forward to seeing this go forward and encourages everyone to visit The Talking Shop too.

Jane also met with Bargoed Community Council lately, and they talked about the issue of off-road bikes. Police seized two quads because they were being driven dangerously on Gelligaer Common last week. Illegal off-roading is a hard thing to stop.

Gwent Police works with local groups in the community to succeed. They are seizing more illegal off-road vehicles lately, and the police need your help. Report illegal off-roading by calling 101 or using the online web page.
