Hey, guess what I just read? A new study looked at speeding in the UK. They used police data to see the highest speeds. It seems tons of drivers speed like crazy.

Almost half the police caught people over 90mph! This happened on 30mph roads. The study covered January 2023 to August 2024. Can you believe that?

The worst offender was in South Yorkshire. Someone hit 122mph in a 30 zone. Gwent Police in South Wales caught a driver at 91mph. That’s still super dangerous, right?

The RAC thinks this is seriously risky behavior. They want the government to do something. They want them to prevent accidents from speeding.

Speed is currently a top cause of road deaths. A police chief said some speeders make mistakes. However, these extreme speeds are on purpose. Limits exist for safety, considering road factors. Breaking them is selfish and unsafe.

Here are some of the highest speeds in 30mph zones: South Yorkshire: 122mph, Sussex: 113mph, Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire: 112mph. Many other areas also had crazy speeds.

North Wales Police found someone doing 88mph in a 20mph zone. Leicestershire Police caught someone at 167mph on the M1. That’s more than double the 70mph limit.

Sadly, speed kills many people each year. Government stats show 331 deaths in 2023 involved speeding. This was the worst in ten years. It’s about 21% of all road deaths.

The government says there’s no excuse for risking lives. They have harsh penalties, and they are working to improve road safety. They even relaunched their “Think!” campaign to target speeding.
