Kieron Mead, a sex offender from Halifax, received a two and a half year sentence for breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Police checked on him in August 2023 and found he used social media platforms. He sent messages, chatted online, and used a Harry Potter app to talk to people.
Cops arrested him because he broke the order and took his iPad, phone, and Xbox. Mead also had a hidden phone, which the SHPO said he could not have.
The hidden phone had Facebook on it, and he used the name “Kieron Meadonator Mead”. He messaged a woman soon after the order began, even though he wasn’t allowed to use Facebook.
A year later, cops visited Mead again and asked for his devices. He gave them a simple Nokia and a laptop, but the laptop showed he used a dating site.
Mead claimed he had no other devices; however, officers heard a notification. He then pulled a Samsung tablet from under his bed, claiming it was his mother’s.
His mother stated that he used it only though, and the tablet had a game with a chat feature and Snapchat. He wasn’t allowed to use Snapchat either.
Cops arrested him again, taking the laptop and tablet. In May and June 2024, he used social media with fake names to chat with women. He didn’t tell the police about them.
Police interviewed him three times, but he didn’t answer any questions. His lawyer said Mead had a tough childhood and that he understood kids better than adults.
The lawyer described his actions as spiraling out of hand. Mead spent eight months in jail before the trial. The judge said Mead broke the SHPO.
The judge believed Mead bought a new device. This allowed him to access the messaging apps and Snapchat after the first phone was seized.
The judge called Mead’s actions persistent and noted how quickly he broke the order after it was placed. He sentenced Mead to two and a half years, with 40% to be served minus the time already served.
