The county handles building upkeep through a contract. This contract covers repairs, inspections, and emergencies.

The current contract started in 2017 and is scheduled to end on July 31, 2026. This contract manages approximately 45,000 jobs annually across 500 county locations.

These locations vary widely. Care homes, libraries, offices, and highway depots are all included in the contract’s scope.

Around 482 schools also utilize the county service, along with nurseries and education centers.

The council approves contract spending yearly, utilizing existing repair funds to cover the costs.

The new contract is set to begin in August 2026. It has an initial term of five years, with the possibility of extension to July 2036. The total potential value of the contract could reach £250 million.

This contract is designed to adapt to changing needs, whether the council properties increase or decrease.

The council’s revenue, school service fees, and existing repair budgets will fund the contract costs.

Cllr Nick Adams-King is expected to approve the contract on March 3rd.
