The YC asks young people their thoughts yearly. They do this with surveys and events. The “Big Conversation” survey includes ages 14 to 25. Their feedback was shared at an event in Winchester on February 8.

In 2024, the YC asked teens about key issues. They considered dangerous driving and substance use. They also looked at public views about young people.

YC volunteers worked hard this year. Over 3,500 young people shared their views, partnering with more than 40 groups. Volunteers gave over 1,000 hours of time. They held workshops for over 850 young people. The YC also got over 1,300 survey responses.

More than 40% said substance use mattered most. This became the top focus for the YC in 2025. They made some recommendations on all three matters.

The YC suggests more substance use support. They want better education about safe driving. They also seek positive youth campaigns which should avoid stereotypes.

PCC Donna Jones values the yearly conference. Senior police and partners attend to learn from young people via the Youth Commission.

The main concern this year is substance use. Drugs cause harm affecting many areas, including knife crime and gangs.

The Youth Commission advises the Police Commissioner. Its members are aged 14 to 25. Criminal justice and change matter to them. They represent young people’s voices. Teens can share their takes on crime and policing. They want to improve trust between youth and police.

PCC Donna Jones noted increased youth involvement. She supports the Youth Independent Advisory Group which reviews police work regularly. Young people help mold policing in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Jones appreciates their hard work and dedication. The conference ideas offer key input that will create positive change across the police force.
