Steve Dakin passed away after battling cancer bravely. His family felt touched by the motorcyclists’ tribute. A model steam engine carried Steve’s coffin to The Birches crematorium in Cheshire as Michael Buble’s song played, welcoming mourners.

Over 100 bikers escorted him on his final ride. His daughter, Katie Mulhern, was moved by the applause and the sight she’d never seen before at any funeral. She thanked residents for moving their cars.

Steve’s last wish got fulfilled: the steam engine he built carried his coffin. The family thanked everyone who attended the funeral. Dave Staton lent the model steam engine, as Steve really wanted it at the crematorium.

Born in Goostrey, Steve Dakin later lived in Middlewich. He attended many steam engine rallies. Steve worked at Jodrell Bank as a shift engineer, following in the footsteps of his dad, who founded the Astle Park rally.

Steve and Karen shared a love for motorbikes, each owning a Harley-Davidson. Steve belonged to several clubs because of his interests, including Harley and steam engine clubs.

Katie said Steve could fix almost anything. He helped others with their projects and enjoyed bikes. Once, he fixed a broken bike at a rally, stopping a likely tow.

His son and brother, Will and Harry, also love engines. Steve liked archery and line dancing too. He tested model steam engines and played darts and dominoes locally.

Katie said Steve stayed positive during his illness, remaining a happy man despite cancer. She added he always helped others first and was a loving grandfather.

Steve Spencer spoke about Steve’s role in their Harley chapter, saying that the group will miss him. The family thanked everyone who helped with the funeral.

The chapter director then specifically named James Byatt, Anna Byatt, and Joseph Edwards, noting their contribution towards helping out. Steve Spencer and Dave Capper also coordinated the bikers.

Steve Game-Blackmoor led the service. The Turnpike Pub hosted the wake afterward, with Jackie and Karl Osborne providing food and service. Over £500 went to St Luke’s Hospice in memory.
