Hey, listen to this crazy road situation. The B6236, Haslingden Old Road, shut down. It happened between Blackburn and Haslingden. New Year’s Day brought a huge landslip.

Heavy rain caused it all over that holiday. One entire lane slid away. It’s been closed since, and they don’t even allow traffic control.

A councillor, Samara Barnes, shared news on Facebook. The council told her the road could stay closed until next year. She represents the Helmshore ward, which is in Rossendale.

Cars now use Grane Road as a detour, as do light goods vehicles. Big trucks must use the M65 and A56 instead.

You can still reach all properties on Haslingden Old Road. “Businesses open” signs are also posted. Pedestrians and cyclists can still get through now, though they might change this if things get worse.

The council will contact landowners soon. They need access for cleanup and surveys, and they’ll talk to contractors for a safety plan. They need to clear all debris.

Repairs are complex, and the council thinks the road won’t open before January 2026. That’s a long time.

The councillor asks people to share stories, as she wants to show the Council how important this road is; they need to fix it fast. People with stories can email her at samarabarnes@rossendalebc.gov.uk.
