A man, aged 23, got arrested. He is linked to a mosque arson that happened five years ago in Haverhill.

The mosque is named Bevan House and its location is Camps Road. The incident occurred on November 10, 2019, around 11:45 PM on a Sunday night. Someone broke in through a window and deliberately started a fire in a prayer room. Prayer mats and books burned.

Police arrested the 23-year-old, who is also from Haverhill, on January 31 for suspected arson. They took him to Bury St Edmunds, to the Police Investigation Centre, where officers questioned him. He was bailed until April 27 while further investigation is ongoing.

PC Jack Oakley responded that night. The fire damaged the building and upset the mosque’s community a lot. He hopes the arrest shows dedication and that investigations continue even after time passes.

Police believe more people helped. PC Oakley asks for anyone with information to speak up, as this could really help the investigation. If you have any tips, contact the Haverhill police and mention reference number 37/68250/19 in your report. Your help is greatly appreciated.
