Council backs relocating HICC to South Street. HICC needs to raise £4.5M for new Romford mosque

The local council must pay for a new site, providing a similar replacement location. The HICC also needs additional funds, and they must raise £4.5 million for the mosque.
The new site was once a bar and Smokey’s Shack restaurant. The Bridge Close project includes homes, a school, health services, and space for businesses.
Councillor Graham Williamson supports the move, stating they back HICC’s decision. The new site lets them expand services that help their members and the community.
The new location will offer cultural, educational, and social events. There will be prayer halls, learning spaces, community space featuring a foodbank, and a soup kitchen to serve people.
Councillor Williamson said they worked with South Street owners and noted that HICC must raise funds despite the council’s payment for the site.
Council representatives will attend a consultation open near Sainsbury’s at the Brewery. Proposals are on display online, and people can comment until March 14.
John Lester, Chair of Havering’s InterFaith Forum, supports HICC’s relocation plan. The forum respects each other’s values greatly. The new site lets HICC offer more aid to the community and their members; we achieve more together to improve our community.
